Grizzly’s Hatchet House Wins Main Street Award

Grizzly’s Hatchet House has been named by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development as a Virginia Main Street outstanding business.

Located in the River District at the corner of Franklin and Monument streets, Grizzly’s Hatchet House is an axe-throwing entertainment venue that includes a kitchen, bar, and lodge-like atmosphere in a 100-year-old tobacco warehouse.

Virginia Main Street, administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, requested nominations for outstanding achievements in comprehensive downtown revitalization efforts.

A jury of downtown revitalization peers reviewed nominations to evaluate how the projects meet the criteria described in each of the nomination categories. The Outstanding Business Award recognizes an outstanding existing business or new downtown business that opened between Jan. 1, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2019.

The Virginia Main Street program is managed by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. It provides assistance and training to help communities increase the economic vitality of their downtown commercial districts.

Christie Wall opened Grizzly’s Hatchet House in August of 2019. She also has opened River City Escapes in the same venue, creating the first entertainment complex in the district.

Grizzly’s Hatchet House is currently open for ages 12 and up Tuesday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 4 p.m. to midnight, and Saturday from noon to midnight. Lane reservations are required to maintain reduced capacity. All lanes are private from 1-6 people. Increased sanitization procedures are being conducted in every space, and individual axes are provided while throwing. Visit www.grizzlyshatchet.com for more information.
