Workers at MerryGoRound, the e-commerce apparel and collectible company coming to the former tank museum in Blairs, will make an average of close to $60,000 a year.
Average salaries will be in the “upper 50s,” Pittsylvania County Economic Development Director Matt Rowe told the Danville Register & Bee.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced in a news release Wednesday that MerryGoRound Inc. planned to invest about $10 million and bring 203 new jobs to the 400,000-square-foot facility.
“This is an established, successful company,” Rowe said.
MerryGoRound is based in North Carolina, but Rowe would not say where in the state it was located.
The company is already making improvements to the former AAF Tank Museum building, with its first workers expected to be there in late September or early October, Rowe said.
“They should start having people in the facility by then,” he said, adding that there would likely be a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project around that time.
“They will be releasing more information,” Rowe said.
Company counsel Cabell Barrow indicated in the news release that more details about the project will be revealed during a ribbon-cutting event in the “near future.”
“My client looks forward to working with the county, the county IDA [Industrial Development Authority] and surrounding community members to create meaningful longstanding careers and repurpose the recently vacated AAF Tank Museum property,” Barrow said in a prepared statement. “They look forward to sharing more details about the project during a ribbon cutting event that will be scheduled in the near future.”
Barrow did not return messages left at his office seeking more information about the project and the company.
Most of the employees will be hired from the Dan River Region, with a small portion of the positions going to individuals from out of the area, Rowe said.
“People will be moving in from near and far for these jobs,” he said.
