Builders sought for Southern Virginia Regional Housing Summit as registration deadline nears

The registration deadline for the Southern Virginia Regional Housing Summit is inching closer.

The daylong event is planned for Oct. 17 at the the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research located at 150 Slayton Ave. in Danville.

Organizers are asking developers, builders, contractors, home renovators, financial institution representatives, architects and community advocates to attend.

The intent is to “spark new residential housing in the region,” according to a news release from the Office of Economic Development and Tourism for Danville.

The region is facing a critical shortage of housing. With more investments possible, especially with the Southern Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill, leaders say the crunch will only get worse.

Presentations will include local, state and federal funding options, a panel showcasing examples of housing projects currently underway and an exhibit hall.

Different localities in Southern Virginia will share details about opportunities to develop single and multi-family units.

Sponsors include Virginia Housing Development Authority, Dewberry, Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, The Lester Group, Caesars Virginia, Danville Redevelopment & Housing Authority, Dan River Realtors Association, Movement Mortgage, Solex Architecture, Blair Construction, Riverside Roof Truss, Townhomes at Hermitage, Southern Virginia Regional Alliance, Chandler Concrete, Wilkins & Co., Danville Community College, Cothran Schoonover Insurance, Southside Investing, SoVa Legal, Hurt and Profitt, and Habitat for Humanity.

Registration closes Oct. 6.
