~City announces another great retailer coming to Danville ~
DANVILLE –
The City of Danville announced today that they are working to secure a SAM’S CLUB for the community. The City stated that SAM’S CLUB has plans to establish a site near the intersection of Westover Drive and Piedmont Drive in Danville, Virginia.
The proposed SAM’S CLUB in Danville will occupy approximately 130,000 square feet. The Danville Club is expected to create more than 150 new jobs. The opening date for this location is not yet available. The first SAM’S CLUB opened in 1983. Today there are over 500 SAM’S CLUB locations with an average store size of 127,776 sq. ft.
"We look forward to continuing to work with the City of Danville to make this SAM’S CLUB project a reality," said Laurie Smalling, Senior Manager Public Affairs for Wal-Mart. "We are excited about the possibility of adding convenience for our current SAM’S CLUB Members and hope to serve many new members in the Danville area."
Mr. Jerry L. Gwaltney, City Manager for the City of Danville expressed his excitement regarding another entry into the Danville retail market, "Once again I am pleased to see our local economy continue to diversify. As Danville continues to grow into its role as a retail hub, you will see the continued ripple effect in the other areas of our economy. "
The City of Danville continues to aggressively pursue diverse economic development opportunities – with unparalleled success. Since May of 2004, retail job growth alone has accounted for more than 2,218 new positions being announced. Accompanying these new jobs, the City has announced commitments by the private sector to invest in excess of $70 million within the City for retail development.
