Downtown Development

Historic Downtown Danville and the Tobacco Warehouse District are experiencing an rebirth in the development of the River District. Main Street now offers a variety of businesses and restaurants. Specialty shops such as Lizzie Lou Boutique, Chesnut Lane, Rippe‘s, and River District Artisans have made their home in historic buildings on this street.

The Tobacco Warehouse District has flourished over the past several years. With investments in projects such as laying down fiber optics (nDanville Fiber Optic Network), providing free public Wi-Fi, creating the River Walk Trail, and the Continuation of the Crossing Master Plan, this district is now the home to new industries, entertainment, and residential housing.

 4th of July
The Carrington Pavilion (an outdoor amphitheater) and the Danville Science Center, which are both located at The Crossing at the Dan, were among the first renovations to attract people of all ages to this district. The re-development continued as the Riverwalk Trail extended to the southern side of the Dan River and connects the new Main Street Plaza/JTI Fountain with the Crossing at the Dan.

Many of old tobacco warehouses renovated into loft apartments and condos. Also located on this road and the surrounding blocks are new businesses that have moved into the area. These businesses are renovating old, historic properties to inhabit their new, innovative services. From hot yoga to a new coffee house, this area of Danville has been reimagined to delight of residents.
