The City of Danville and the Department of Economic Development (DOED) provide a one-stop approach for growth and expansion within Danville's existing business community. The DOED also acts as a resource for Danville entrepreneurs, small businesses and large corporations alike, by serving as a fast track in the process of opening or expanding businesses in the area.

The U.S. Small Business Administration
The U.S. Small Business Administration, established in 1953, provides financial, technical and management assistance to help Americans start, run, and grow their businesses. With a portfolio of direct and guaranteed business loans and disaster loans worth more than $45 billion, SBA is the nation's largest single financial backer of small businesses. (US-SBA)
Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP)
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is the economic development office for the State of Virginia. The Partnership provides numerous resources for existing and new Virginia businesses. Workforce development, funding and financial assistance, research and trade development, and site location assistance are among some of the services offered through the VEDP.
Virginia Department of Business Assistance - Existing Business Services Division (EBA)
The Existing Business Services Division (EBS) serves as the key point of communication and contact between Virginia's basic employers and the Commonwealth. The EBS provides companies with the resources of a global corporation by helping them access local, state, federal, non-profit,  private services and information that can improve their productivity and competitiveness.
Danville Community College (DCC)
Danville Community College, part of the Virginia Community College system, serves the community of Danville and the surrounding region through a variety of research, academic and career development programs. These programs are designed to meet the needs of citizens and businesses alike in the Dan River Region.
Institute for Advanced Learning and Research

The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research is a partnership between the Danville Region's educational, governmental, and private leadership institutions. The Institute is an initiative for economic development, education, research, technology-access and community development.  This initiative is designed to enable the region to compete more vigorously in the global market place and to enhance the quality of life within the City of Danville. The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research is committed to offering courses and programs with a mathematics, science and information technology focus.

 


Regional Center for Applied Technology (RCATT)

DCC's Regional Center for Applied Technology and Training (RCATT) currently offers aggressive technology transfer and training programs that include: 

  • Industry-improvement Conferences
  • Technology Transfer workshops
  • Customized Company -specific Training Programs
  • On-line distance learning courses
  • Employee assessment and job profiling systems
                          

RCATT has received a $526,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop and adapt curricula to provide an Advanced Manufacturing Technology degree program. The award is the first time the NSF has provided funding for DCC programs.  This marks the strength of the NSF's commitment and the important role DCC plays in continuing workforce education. RCATT also received a $483,500 grant.  RCATT purchased and is operating a Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) machine that enables private companies to quickly produce a metal, plastic or ceramic proto-type from a 3-D CAD drawing. This advanced SLS device is one of only a handful of these machines in Virginia and companies around the country have expressed interest in working with DCC and the SLS technology.


Averett University
Averett University is a 4-year, private, comprehensive university located on a 19-Acre campus in Danville, VA. From equestrian studies to education, from aviation to art, Averett offers more than 35 undergraduate degrees, an honors program and three Master's degrees. Averett University is an excellent education and training resource for Danville businesses.
Center for Business, Industry and Government (C-BIG)
Through the Center for Business, Industry, and Government, Danville Community College (DCC)  provides a wide variety of educational opportunities for companies and organizations in the Danville Region. Services include on-campus or on-site tailored training programs; short courses, workshops, and seminars; high-tech training using state-of-the-art equipment; management and supervisory development training; basic skills training; teleconferencing; and use of College facilities for company-sponsored training.
